Who Needs Beauty School to Cut Hair

Just do it.

And so I did.

Cut my boys’ hair that is – and did so for eight years without a lick of beauty school. Can you imagine? Yes, I was a natural. Or so I thought. Armed with clippers and scissors, no barber or beautician could match the hair styling talents of Big Daddy Tieves.

But eventually reality set in – likely, in large part, to my wife’s prayers. I have to admit I was becoming somewhat delusional about my haircutting talents, along with the money I was saving (yes, Bruce, you still need to fund your 529 plans). Shucks!

Oh well, I have to admit that the ladies at SportsClips® have my boys looking good these days – actually downright handsome – and Jacob and Ben now look forward to haircut day.

In marketing communications, some small business owners arm themselves with a computer and software to build their own brands. Similar, in many ways, to Bruce the Beautician, entrepreneurs willingly take on the job because it’s often enjoyable, tools are available and labor costs are minimal. It’s just too hard to resist regardless of the level of personal expertise.

However, at some point, some small business owners realize that the marketing communications hat doesn’t fit quite so well. And, maybe, just maybe, someone more experienced in the field can put forth a better strategy and stronger creative to increase sales opportunities.

Think about it for a minute. Are you a little delusional (like Bruce the Beautician) when it comes to marketing communications? If so, it may be time to call on a professional to help polish your brand.
